Fried Banana Shop

Official artist photo of Fried Banana Shop
PROFILE

Fried Banana Shop is a three-piece formed by music lovers who met in their neighbourhood during the dispiriting days of the pandemic. The group consists of Ryuju, founder of the creative collective w.a.u; guitarist Tomo; and saxophonist Yoji, and performs across Tokyo’s live-house and club scenes. Rooted in jazz, indie pop and rock, they reinterpret dream pop and alternative jazz to create a soft, warmly textured world of their own. They actively collaborate with vocalists and rappers from across the scene, presenting a genre-fluid, cross-disciplinary sound that moves beyond the conventional framework of a band. They also perform DJ sets, revealing multiple dimensions despite being an instrumental group. In 2026, their single Raccoon was selected as the cover of Spotify’s official Modern Jazz Japan playlist, while the EP Goldenrod appeared on the cover of Fresh Finds Japan. That same year, they were named to TuneCore Japan’s INDEPENDENT ARTIST 100 - 2026. They have also appeared at in-store events including LACOSTE + Polo Factory Event at Lacoste Harajuku and DRIFTWOOD by JOHNNIE WALKER BLONDE.

WORKS

Meet the artists shaping the light and landscape of the venue.

LIGHTING ARTIST

須崎 陽

My work uses materials made for agriculture and construction sites. We cannot see what happens inside spaces that unquestionably exist within the city yet remain inaccessible to us, and anything could be happening there. The same may be said of everyone from a neighbor behind a single wall to one's own family. Using materials designed to create partitions in the smallest possible unit and shortest possible time, I explore parallel worlds in contemporary life and places I cannot enter.

SAND ARTIST

Sota Kohara

I am interested in form. Among the many shells scattered at my feet, I find myself searching for one that feels just right—not because it is star-shaped or pink, but because its bumps and hollows themselves feel satisfying. Water is flat; rock protrudes. Sand seems to lie somewhere between them, a material that can hold its shape for about three days if you choose. I use this distinctive material to think about where satisfaction comes from.
